12-Month Wedding Checklist

Let's break down the essential tasks for each month leading up to your wedding. This comprehensive wedding planning checklist will ensure you don't miss a thing.

12 Months Before

  • Announce Your Engagement: Start by sharing the big news with family and friends. This can be done in person, over the phone, or through a creative social media post. An engagement party is a great way to celebrate and formally announce your engagement.
  • Print This Wedding Planner: Create a binder to keep everything organized in one place. This physical binder will be your go-to resource throughout the planning process, helping you track progress and stay on top of tasks.
  • Set the Wedding Date: Choose a date that works for you, your partner, and your families. Consider the season, weather, and any significant dates that may conflict. Keep in mind that popular dates may require booking well in advance.
  • Pick a Location: Decide on the venue for your wedding. Whether it's a local church, a beach resort, or a rustic barn, make sure it fits your vision and budget. Visit potential venues to see them in person and discuss availability.
  • Set Your Wedding Budget: Establish your budget and divide the costs. Prioritize what's most important to you and allocate funds accordingly. This will help you avoid overspending and ensure you have enough for all the essential elements.
  • Hire a Photographer for Engagement Photos (optional): Capture this special time with a professional photoshoot. Engagement photos can be used for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or simply as a keepsake.
  • Plan Your Engagement Party: Choose the location, date, guest list, catering, and drinks. This is a fun way to celebrate your engagement and introduce both families. It can be as formal or casual as you like.
  • Hire a Wedding Planner (optional): If you feel overwhelmed or want professional help, a wedding planner can handle much of the organizational stress. They have industry connections and experience that can save you time and money.
  • Get Inspired: Visit Pinterest, wedding blogs, and start collecting wedding ideas. Create a vision board with colours, themes, and styles you love. This will guide your decisions and help communicate your vision to vendors.
  • Choose a Wedding Theme: Decide on the style and colour scheme. Whether it's classic, boho, modern, or vintage, your theme will influence many aspects of your wedding, from invitations to decor.
  • Create an Initial Guest List: Organize addresses and consult with parents about the guest list. This is a preliminary list that can be adjusted as you finalize details. Keep track of addresses for sending invitations.
