When you’re planning your wedding, it’s not just the day itself that you need to think about. An engagement brings with it a whole host of events and festivities in the run-up to the big day, and each one comes with its own set of invitations. But don’t panic! It will all be manageable – and even enjoyable! – if you plan ahead, know what to expect, and make smart choices that help to streamline the process for you. Read on to learn what to send and when…
Engagement Party Invitations
You’ll want to throw a party as soon as possible after the engagement, while it’s still hot off the press, so try and get your invitations out as soon as you’ve popped the bubbly! Of course, if you’re planning to announce the engagement at the party, as a surprise for your friends and family, you’ll have to come up with another excuse for the get-together!
Bridal Shower Invitations
These should go out 6 to 8 weeks before the party, and it’s especially important to be organized well in advance if you’re inviting friends from further afield.
Save the Dates
It’s best to get your chosen date out there 6 months before the wedding, or earlier if you're planning to get married abroad and need to give your guests plenty of notice for making their travel arrangements.
Wedding Invitations for Overseas Guests
If you're inviting guests from overseas, make sure to send theirs out in advance of the bulk of your invitations, and at least 12 weeks before your wedding date.
Wedding Invitations
Send your wedding invitations out 6 to 8 weeks before the big day to give your guests time to RSVP and make arrangements.
Bachelorette Party Invitations
You’ll want as many friends around you as possible for your epic bachelorette party, so make sure they know it’s happening one month in advance.
Rehearsal Dinner Invitations
The rehearsal dinner is a great opportunity for your wedding party to get together, usually the night before the wedding, to toast the happy couple. Get your invitations out there 3 to 6 weeks in advance, to be on the safe side.
Wedding Thank-You Cards
In all the buzz and excitement of your engagement and wedding, it’s hard to keep track of who’s given you what, and to stay on top of the thank-yous. It’s worth making a note of every gift you receive, and sending out thank-you cards promptly so that they don’t stack up! For engagement and bridal shower gifts, it’s best to send thank-you notes within 2 to 3 weeks of the event, and certainly before the wedding day. For gifts received on the day itself, send out your thank-yous within 3 months, and within 2-3 weeks for gifts received in the days and weeks after your wedding.
